கொள்ளு பருப்பு பொடி செய்வது எப்படி?

கொழுத்தவனுக்கு கொள்ளு இளைத்தவனுக்கு எள்ளு என்று சொல்வார்கள். உடல் இளைப்பதற்கு கொள்ளு உண்பது மிகவும் நல்லது.  எந்த வித பக்க விளைவும் இல்லாமல் உடம்பை இளைக்க வைப்பது கொள்ளு ஒன்று தான்.   சரி கொள்ளு பொடி எப்படி செய்வது என்று பார்ப்போமா? தேவையான பொருட்கள்:  கொள்ளு - 1 கப் மிளகாய் வற்றல் - 5  - 10 ((கொள்ளு அளவிற்கேற்றவாறு) பெருங்காயம்     -  ஒரு சிறு துண்டு (கட்டியாக இருந்தால்)  உப்பு - தேவைக்கேற்ப  உப்பை தவிர மற்ற எல்லா பொருட்களையும் ஒவ்வொன்றாக வாணலியில் எண்ணை விடாமல் வறுத்துக்கொள்ளவும்.  பின்னர் நன்கு ஆறியவுடன் உப்பையும் சேர்த்து வைத்து மிக்சியில் பொடித்து ஒரு காற்றுப்புகாத டப்பாவில் போட்டு வைத்து உபயோகிக்கலாம்.  நல்ல சூடான சதத்தில் நெய்யோ நல்லெண்ணையோ விட்டு இந்த பொடியை தேவையான அளவு சேர்த்து பிசைந்து சாப்பிட்டால் மிகவும் சுவையாக இருக்கும். உடம்பில் தேவையற்ற கொழுப்பு குறைந்து அழகும் கூடும். 

How to make Horse gram sprouts

Just like moong dal sprouts Horse gram can also be sprouted to make delicious dishes. It is quite healthy for bringing down cholestrol levels too. Ingredients: Horse gram - 250 gms Method: Wash and soak horsegram in 3 cups of water for about 12 hours. Wash again strain and transfer it to a strainer so that all the excess water drains off. Cover the strainer with a vessel. Sprinkle a little water in the night. The sprouts will appear within 24 hours. These can be refrigerated for about 3 to 4 days.

Horse gram Dal - Kollu Pappu

Ingredients: Horse Gram - 1 cup Shallots - 8 nos Green Chilly - 1 no. Red Chilly - 1 no. Gingely Oil - 1 tbsp Water - 1 cup Salt to taste Mustard seeds - 1 tsp Asafodeita - 1 pinch Method: Soak Kollu over night or for about 8 hours. Pressure cook it for about 5 whistles. Remove and mash thoroughly (or even can grind coarsely). Add the required salt and 1 cup of water to the dal and cook it on a medium flame. Peel and cut shallots. In a pan heat oil. Add mustard seeds and when they splutter add the cut shallots, asafodeita, green chilly, red chilly and saute for a min. Pour it on to the dal. Mix well. Serve with hot rice or Chappati.

Horse gram - Its health benefits

Horse gram, (Kollu, Kulith, galath, kulath, kulthi, gahat) is a legume that is normally known as fodder for horses. But this legume which is reddish brown in colour helps in reducing the unwanted fats and also help in weight reduction diets. It also helps in reduction of pain in dry piles, helps in purifying mensuration. Horsegram is also said to cure arthritis. It is rich in protein and dietary fibre that helps to regulate blood pressure and blood glucose levels. Horse gram is rich in proteins, vitamin c and iron too. Horse gram powder with a little of water helps in controlling boils and skin rashes. The liquid that is used to boil horse gram helps in regulating fever. Horse gram helps in lowering cholestrol level and also reduces flatulence. Women with menstural problem like heavy bleeding, and irregular periods can benefit by taking horse gram water or intaking horse gram soups or horse gram sprouts to daily diet. Taking horse gram after delivery will stop the heavy bleeding.

Kollu Kalathu Podi - A tribute to Jayashree Kailas

Our fellow blogger, Jayashree Kailas of Experiments in Kailas Kitchen . She is a wonderful blogger who have passed away on 12th of October due to P neumonia. Though I have not interacted with her much, I have always liked  and reffered to her blog posts, when it comes to cooking Kerala style recipes.  I make Paruppu podi and keep stock regularly as kids love it. But, this seems to be quite different.   Kollu Kalathu Podi . I have herd that eating Kollu (Horegram) helps in weight reduction and also in reducing cholestrol level.  Ingredients: Horsegram (Kollu) - 1 cup Bengal Gram Dal - 1/4 cup Urad Dal - 1/4 cup Peppercorns - 1/4 tsp (or 4 to 6 corns) Asafodeita - 1/2 inch piece Red Chillies - 4 to 6 nos Salt as required Method: Dry roast the dals one by one in a pan till they release a nice aroma. Add 1/4 tsp of gingely oil and fry asafodeita, red chillies, pepper corn. Allow it to cool and grind Horsegram first to a fine powder then grind all the other ingredients toge

Horse gram thuvaiyal

Ingredients: Horse gram - 1 cup Curry leaves - 1/4 cup Coriander leaves - 1/2 cup Mint - a little Garlic pods - 4 nos Red Chillies - 2 to 4 Oil - 1 tsp Salt to taste Coriander seeds - 1 tsp Method: Pressure cook horse gram for about 4 to 5 whistles with very little water and let it cool. Heat oil in a pan and fry coriander seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, red chillies and garlic. When cold grind the fried items along with horsegram, salt and coriander seeds. This goes well with Pepper Jeera Rasam or Garlic Rasam. Can also be served with hot rice and ghee. Horse gram helps in reducing weight.

Nine grains dosa

Ingredients: Green Moong Dal - 1/2 cup Black Urad Dal - 1/2 cup Channa Dal - 1/2 cup Boiled Rice - 1/2 cup Raw Rice - 1/2 cup Thuvar Dal - 1/2 cup Horse Gram - 1/2 cup Soya bean - 1/2 cup Corn - 1/2 cup Green Chillies - 6 to 8 nos Red Chillies - 8 to 10 nos Grated coconut - 1/4 cup Asafodeita - 1 tbsp Curry leaves - 1/2 cup Coriander leaves - 1/2 cup Mint leaves - 1/4 cup Ginger - 1 inch piece salt to taste Oil Method: Wash and soak all the dals for about 6 to 8 hours. Grind all the dals along with grated coconut, green chillies, red chillies, ginger, curry leaves, salt, asafodeita and mint leaves coarsely. Chop the coriander leaves finely and add it to the grind batter. Heat a tawa and when hot reduce the flame to medium and spread the batter to a thin dosa.Sprinkle oil on the sides. When one side turns golden brown, turn to the other side and cook it for a minute. Can be served without any side dish or can be served with coconut chutney.

Barley-Horsegram Porridge to reduce weight

This recipe is a very good weight reducer if taken regularly. Ingredients: Barley - 1/2 cup Horse gram - 1/2 cup Dried ginger powder - 1 tsp Salt to taste Butter milk - 1 cup Water - 1 cup Green chilly - 1 Lemon - 1/2 Method: Clean barley and horsegram and grind it to a fine powder in flour mill (it is a bit hard to grind it in mixer at home). Take 3 tsp of the powder and fry it in a dry pan ensuring it didnot burn out. Add 1/4 cup of water and make it to a fine paste without forming any lumps. Mash any if formed and beat it thoroughly. Add remaining water and cook it. Keep stirring so that it does not burn and also not to form lumps. When cooked remove from flame, add dried ginger powder, green chillies and salt. Add buttermilk and squeeze out the lemon juice. Note: If milk, sugar and elaichi is added to the cooked mixture and drank regularly then it helps in regaining the weight that is reduced due to dieting and heavy exercising.

Horse gram powder for weight reduction

Ingredients: Horse gram - 1 cup Red chillies - 10 nos Asafodeita - 1 pinch Salt to taste Method: Fry horse gram, red chillies and asafodeita in dry pan. When cold add required salt and grind it to a coarse powder.  Add it to hot rice and ghee mix well.  This is very good for cold and it also helps in weight reduction. 

Horse gram Porridge - Healthy recipe for women

This is a summer drink, which helps in easy digestion and keeps the body cool. Those who want to diet also can add horse gram in their daily routine which will help in reduction of extra fat. Ingredients Horse Gram - 1/4 cup Boiled Rice - 3/4 cup Water - 3 cups Salt to taste Butter milk - 2 cups Method Fry the horse gram in a dry pan and grind it coarsely. Fry the boiled rice also and grind it coarsely. Pressure cook horse gram powder and boiled rice using 2 cups of water. When cooked mash it using a laddle. Add salt, remaining cup of water and butter milk to it. This serves two people. Note: Ginger, coriander, curry leaves can be ground into a fine paste and added to this porridge to give a different taste. This powder can be made in larger quantities and stored. It can be used whenever needed. Pregnant Women, can have it as a breakfast especially in the end of 2nd trimester and the whole of 3rd trimester as it gives a lot of energy.
