We make puttu using rice flour, here is something new and different, which can be made as evening snack or as a special dish during festivals. Ingredients: Thuvar Dal - 1 cup Bengal Gram Dal - 1 cup Jaggery - 1 cup Grated Coconut - 1 cup Ghee - 4 tbsp Cashew Nuts - 12 nos Cardamom - 6 nos or powdered cardamom - 1 tsp Method: Pressure cook Bengal gram and Thuvar Dal in sufficient water without whistle. Remove and drain water. When cool grind in mixie coarsely. Powder jaggery finely. Add it to the dals along with cardamom powder and grated coconut. Mix well. Ensure no lumps are formed. People who do Okkarai for Diwali can do this as an alternative too. Note : The drained water could be used in rasam or sambar. |
