Brinjal or Egg plant Gothsu

Brinjal or Eggplant Gothsu is one dish that is one of the tastiest side dish for Ven Pongal or Idly after pouring hot ghee on it. If you dont take or allergic to eggplants or dont like the taste use just onion and tomatoes and make Tomato Gojju.

Brinjal (White one is most preferrable) - cut into small pieces 1 cup
Tomato - finely chopped 1 cup
Onion - finely chopped 1/2 cup
Moong Dal or Masoor Dal - 1/2 cup
Green Chillies - 3 nos
Tamarind paste - 1 1/2 spoons
Salt to taste
Oil - 2 spoons
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Asafodeita powder - 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/4 spoon
Red Chilly - 2 nos
Curry Leaves a few
Coriander Leaves a few

Pressure cook the dal (moong dal or masoor dal). Heat oil in the pan add mustard seeds, red chilly, slit green chilly, onions and salt. Saute for a while. When the onion turns glassy add tomato and brinjal. When the brinjal pieces gets saute a little add the tamarind paste and 1 cup of water and bring it to boil. Add the salt once the raw smell is gone. Add the cooked dal check for salt. Add more if needed. Bring it to boil by keeping the flame in low. Add finely chopped curry leaves and coriander leaves.
